Car Lag

Eight hours of driving, no nap and the next day (today) Alec is fit as a fiddle having the time of his life with his cousins. I was SO not in the mood to ride in the car yesterday, although for some reason my lifelong inability to read in the car without barfing has disappear, so I was able to sit in the back seat and enjoy a terrifying mystery novel (with kidnapped and killed babies--why must they hurt babies; these books never bothered me before!!) while Alec basked in the sweet glow of the DVD player. What did families do before DVDs in the car? Play games? Communicate? Engage in educational activities? All I know is I'd have gouged my eyes out without that blessed DVD player. It is getting a little harder, however, to put Alec off when, invariably, he asks, "Nemo Mom OK?" Um, no. Nemo's mom was eaten by a shark. In the world of Disney, Mom is never OK. Sorry.
The saddest part of leaving home was when Tom was taking Jody out the door in her carrier to board her at the vets. Alec started crying, "Jody back?"
