Farms and Flats
Alec had a great time on the preschool trip to the pumpkin patch about half an hour from Chico. I took the morning off so we could all go, and Tom took tons (156) pictures. There was a train, a potbellied pig, soil experiments, hands touching spaghetti brains, a lost field mouse and the planting of pumpkin seeds.
The downer came as we were pulling out of the parking lot, headed for the long-awaited treat of eating at Black Bear Diner in Gridley. Pop! Hiss! Tom ran over a metal fence that was hiding in the grass in the parking lot. How long do you think it would take to get such an issue taken care of? Try 4 1/2 hours. Ugh. Another family ended up taking Alec and me home while Tom dealt with a botched tow response and two tire places.
At least we got a rad pumpkin.
Alec's funny of the day: I put him in drop-in day care for a couple of hours so I could get some work done (I'm also developing a cold or something) and when I picked him up he begged for the rare treat of a Happy Meal. I said no way and he pouted: "But there's an emergency ... in my tummy!" Didn't happen.
